PhotoBlog #5 Tour de Aurangabad!

Super view- Ajanta caves!

I know the title is cheesy and lacks innovation but then I could not come up with a better one and if I wait till I come up with one, the idea (and motivation) of writing this up would pass. This was a short weekend trip to Aurangabad. I had visited Aurangabad long back and it was time to revisit the "GHATI" place.

Early morning breakfast at our custom-made on road tapri!

There was a long line at the Ajanta caves and so we had to pass time by doing all sorts of lame things, including the cliché bandar poses!!

The magnificent Ajanta caves!

Tip#1 There is a visitor center near both Ajanta and Ellora caves (established with the help of a Japanese organisation). One should definitely visit these before visiting the caves as they have informative videos about the history of the caves and Buddhism in general. Helps a lot while you are exploring the paintings and sculptures and caves. Unfortunately they did not allow to click pictures there!

School history textbook nostalgia!

Difficult to believe that these artworks are thousands of years old

Day #2!

If you do not have the energy to climb the Daulatabad fort , you can always click a selfie with it in the background!

Eluding Ellora!

Ravana lifting the Kailash temple!

The magnanimous  Kailash temple at Ellora was carved out of a SINGLE piece of rock!

Local tip : There is a small route from side of the temple which takes you all the way up. The overhead view is beautiful. The sculptures and artwork are intricate. The scene looks right out of a Game of Thrones Episode!

Panchakki also known as the water mill is a grind grain for the pilgrims. It was designed to generate energy via water brought down from a spring on a mountain.

The beautiful Grishneshwar temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga shrines mentioned in the Shiva Purana

There were a few more places which we would have loved to visit (Soneri Mahal in the University campus). But you need to keep somethings for the next trip as well. Thanks to our awesome host Avinash Khedkar , it was one memorable trip!

Westeros : Winter is coming :: Mumbai: Monsoon has come !

Although the analogy isn't perfect cause Winter is dreaded at Westeros while Monsoons are eagerly awaited in Mumbai, especially by trekking community. But then thoda GOT tadka is necessary when season 6 is ended on a high! This was a one day trek to Mrugagad organized by YHAI Ambernath Unit. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about it :
