Westeros : Winter is coming :: Mumbai: Monsoon has come !

Although the analogy isn't perfect cause Winter is dreaded at Westeros while Monsoons are eagerly awaited in Mumbai, especially by trekking community. But then thoda GOT tadka is necessary when season 6 is ended on a high! This was a one day trek to Mrugagad organized by YHAI Ambernath Unit. Here is what Wikipedia has to say about it :

Dumb Charades! From Gardish to Zubeida to Jal bin Machli Nrutya bin Bijali!!

PhotoBlog #3 Rajmachi!!

Long back in 2005, when we had just joined Seth GSMC and KEM Hospital we had an announcement that there would be a welcome "trek" for the first year students. I had no clue about what a trek is. But it seemed interesting. And considering that all we what we were doing was dissecting dead bodies (in Anatomy), experimenting our novice clinical (and non existent) clinical skills on the office peon (in Physiology) and sucking in weird solutions and rattofying all possible cycles (in Biochemistry), even staring at a wall would had been more interesting. So despite having no clue how difficult or easy this was going to be, I signed up. And I am glad that I took that decision. The first trek that I did was that of Rajmachi, thanks to Dr Parmeshwar Gond for introducing all of us to this! And 11 years later when I had the opportunity I latched on to it. So here how it went!!

The base village is called Udhewadi. The nearest railways station is Lonavala. Alternatively one can climb up from the Karjat side, but that route is a bit treacherous; more on that later in the post.

(Not so white) Men in white!

And thats how exciting the train journey was!

The best part about a night trek is that it is comfortable. Climbing 4hrs during the day would have been a tough task

Ratris Khel Chale....

Does that make it a carnivore?

The locals had arranged tents for us. Campfire with some scary stories and then waking up to this awesome view!

Early morning wala selfie

We had a visitor in the morning. Some were very happy!
Some were not so happy

And some preferred to lock themselves up!

The only Davidson that I can relate to is the textbook of Medicine. This was the other Davidson !

We planned to return from the other side, via Kondhane caves , Karjat. All seemed fine until it wasn't. We lost are way as we started and ended up encircling Rajmachi, headed to where we started from. Google Maps to the rescue! We did find a way out. It was way more difficult than we anticipated. We expected it to be a 2hr downhill route. But it was never ending. It was turning dark. We were on the right track as we could see trails and signs left by hikers. But it got real scary when it was pitch dark and Google baba thought that we are exactly parallel to the route we SHOULD be on and we are headed in the opposite direction. All the happy faces turned to this!
Happy, but wait.... Bade bade deshon mein chotti chotti batein hoti rehti hai Senorita!!

But as every dark cloud has a silver lining , every dark night has a ray of hope. We found that ray of hope in the form of a small village. The natives not only came to help us out, they arranged for a pick up for us from the base to Karjat. Hats off to all the first timers who did pretty well to complete the trek!   You can't really plan out such things and this indeed was an unexpected and eventful culmination to yet another wonderful trek!

All's well that ends well! The ray of hope in the dark night !

And thanks to Google photos we have this awesome video!

P.S. If anyone plans to trek to RajMachi , contact these guys. They made great arrangements for food and stay there for us:
